This study analyses student governments (or student councils, as they are named in Romania), a particular form of self-organization of high school students, and an important institution of school democracy. The aim of this study is to define possible directions of research, to recommend research questions and to present theoretic methods used in the research of school democracy and student governments. School democracy is tackled in most detail, but we also propose research questions from the point of view of the sociology of organizations and sociology of youth.
