About the Journal

About the Journal
"Erdélyi Társadalom" (Transylvanian Society) is a scientific journal published twice a year. It appeared for the first time in 2003.
The editing of the journal is the responsibility of the Hungarian Department of Sociology and Social Work of the Babeş-Bolyai University (BBU) in Cluj, while the publisher is the Cluj University Press [Presa Universitară Clujeană], the publishing house of the BBU.
The aim of our journal is to provide a quality periodical for scientific communication to members of the social science community, including sociology, social work, social geography, regional studies and cultural anthropology. We invite especially, but not exclusively, papers that address topics related to Transylvania, Romania or minorities in general.
Each issue of the journal is built around a specific theme, therefore we expect articles that focus on those topics. Nevertheless, each number might include one or two papers that are not connected to the general theme.
Our target audience is made up of social scientists, researchers and practitioners, especially political consultants and media specialists interested in understanding the ethnic Hungarian society of Transylvania, and Transylvania in general.

The double blind peer review process applied at our journal

The paper submitted to our journal are being reviewed by two independent reviewers. The steps of the review process are listed below:

  1. The submitted paper is first read by one of the editors of the journal in order to evaluate its general quality and whether it meets the most basic criteria of a scientific text. Those papers which do not are being rejected without further reviewing.
  2. All submitted papers are being managed through the review process by a member of the editorial board, including anonimization of the text and the selection of the two anonymous and independent reviewers.
  3. The review process is double blind which means that neither the authors’ nor the reviewers’ identities are revealed to the other part. The reviewers are independent from the authors in that they are not employed by the same institution, do not participate in common same research projects or have not been co-authors of scientific texts beforehand.
  4. The reviews are read by the editor and in case they are contradictory a third reviewer will be involved in the process. If the two reviews are converging, the editor summarizes the most relevant comments and communicates it to the authors.
  5. The reviewers may choose from the following options as the paper is concerned:
    a)    To be published without revision.
    b)    To be published with minor revision.
    c)    To be published with major revision.
    d)    To be rejected.
  6. The review form contains a question where the reviewers are asked if they would be available for the re-reading of the paper if major revision is considered necessary.
